Bijie Ren

A synthetic biologist by training. PhD from UC San Diego in microalgae, synthetic and systems biology, following synthetic biology research at MIT, then postdoctoral work at Stanford and the Carnegie Institution for Science on algae and AI, coral–algae symbiosis, and cell systems biology.

Founded Satori Life Tech in 2020 to turn that marine synthetic biology into a laboratory: microalgae essences, bioactive peptides and deep-sea actives, ten-plus patents filed, and ingredients supplied to more than twenty luxury skincare brands. Current work pairs interactome data with large language models to build AI cell models for high-throughput anti-ageing research and sustainable biomanufacturing. Over 3,600 academic citations.

Ten years of machine-learning engineering, building multimodal LLM and vision-language systems from training through deployment, with a focus on inference optimisation and large-scale rollout. Previously at Instacart (Caper Cart), TikTok and Meta AI Research (FAIR), including the vision-language architecture behind a catalogue of 300,000+ SKUs. Master's in control engineering from Tsinghua University; author of a CVPR 2018 Spotlight paper.

At SATORI CELL, responsible for the whole technical stack: the store, payments and fulfilment, and turning the laboratory's data methods into tools an individual can use.
